Luondu

Luondu is the Sami word for "nature". Earlier there was a differentiation between the word for physical nature – what we can see, luohtu, and the spiritual contents in nature, luondu. Today luondu is used for both meanings.

Varanger Sami Museum has made an exhibition in the information centre at Ceavccageađge/Mortensnes with the title "Luondu – bassi eanadat/holy landscape". The exhibition mediates at traditional Sami understanding of nature. People and animals are not alone in nature; we share it with other creatures, spirits and powers that give nature its soul and spiritualize the landscape.
