Stone objects (lithic material)

At Early Stone Age locations in Varanger it is common to find flares and objects made of coarse grained and fine grained quartzite, rock crystal, chert (a flint like stone type) and quartz. In addition there has found some objects of flint, which is not a rock species found naturally in the area.

From the Late Stone Age, when grinding became a typical technique on softer rock types, there has also been found objects made of softer stones, such as slate.
