Sami pre-Christian burial rites

The Sami people buried their dead in many ways:

  • In reindeer sleighs, bulke in Sami (a round bottomed sleigh), on wooden rails up in large threes, or in hollow tree trunks placed directly on the ground.
  • Into the ground, often marked with stones on the surface·
  • In scree graves in chambers or in mountain crevices or caves
